Review: YouTube Videos in Teaching Listening

Hello, everyone! Today, i'd like to share my new reading material, it's still about scientific article. My concern is still into listening skill. However there are some differences and similarities between two of these articles. Oh, i almost forgot to tell you what my new reading material is. The title is "YouTube Videos in Teaching Listening: The Benefits in Experts’ Views" which had been collected by Lidia Puspa Ayu in 2016. As you can read from its title, this article is about experts' perspective towards the advantage of using YouTube as an instructional tool in teaching listening.

Now, i'm about to compare the journal article i've reviewed previously and the journal article i haven't read to it entirely. Anyways, my previous journal review has "The Impact of Silent and Freeze-Frame Viewing Techinques of Video Materials on the Intermediate EFL Learners' Listening Comprehension as its title.

The similarity

— both of them are concerned with listening skill.

— both of them are considered that using video material as one of some ways to improve students' listening skill.

— both of them have similar structure of section in their journal article (e.g. article's title, abstract, lit. review, etc.).

The difference

— my previous journal review used experimental study to collect its data while the journal article i'll review used library research.

—the data sources of the journal article i'll review were collected from written resources while my previous journal review collected its data by the result of its experiment.

— the journal article i'll review doesn't need participants to collect its data while my previous journal review had Iranian high school learners as its participants.

— the procedure in my previous journal review had pretest and postest steps to obtain its findings while the writer of the journal article i'll review required several documents; in the end, the writer will conclude the essential points to solve the problem that is related to the topic.

— the result of my previous journal review found there was a difference between the experimental groups in using two kinds of viewing techniques and the control group while the journal article i'll review found that YouTube was necessary being provided by teachers for making students to be more familiar with English material.

I think those are some major differences and similarities between my previous journal review and the journal article i'll review. Indeed, the content of their article terms like their introduction, literature review, and their references are different.

I guess that's all about today's blog. I'll see you in another blog. Thank you!

It's been a week since i posted about Naming Traditions on my blog and today i want to talk about different thing.  Tuesday ago, in the class of post-intermediate reading, we discussed about "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus." It's a book by John Gray. Talking about what makes women and men have differences. I find it interesting to be honest though i haven't finished the book. Let's talk about it a little! When women have to deal with their problems, they feel better to talk about their problems instead of finding solutions. Meanwhile men feel better to looking up for solutions. Most of them prefer to be silent than talking or sharing it to other people. I sometimes find it hard for myself to keep these problems. I feel like world needs to know about my problems. It's actually not a good way, i realized that. I'm trying to erase this habit. It's billion percent would be better to find a solut...

Using Video Materials with Special Viewing Techniques: part 4

Hello, everyone! Today i want to continue my article journal review which will be talking about the result and discussion section of that article. If you haven't read my previous blog, please go on to this link . Result   The findings of this research showed that there is a difference while using silent and freeze-frame control mode to improve students' listening comprehension. There is largerst difference between the mean scores of using silent viewing technique (silent viewing group-one of the experimental groups) and the control group. However, there is no significant difference between the silent viewing group and the freeze-frame viewing group. Discussion Using audiovisual tool to improve students' listening comprehension creates more interesting and challenging experience for both learners and teachers. Using it will provide EFL learners with content, context, and language.  I think that's all about today's topic. Using video material by using...
